I had my master's thesis defense coming up in a week and was stressed out working on it, wanted to take a good break. It was a saturday (06/13/2009) evening and the rains suddenly poured and had reduced to just drizzling, it was beautiful outside. There were three cycles at Kala's house, I thought going out for cycling would be a good idea...... Kala and Bharani were game and we left. Bharani said she knows a trail nearby and we can ride there. I had no idea what this trail looked like, being a person who admires nature in every way possible....I tend to go out and explore nearby lakes, creeks etc.. around, but had no idea that there was a trail nearby ... I was excited.
We crossed a cemetery and came to the entrance of the 17 mile Hawthorne Trail, it was a pleasant view... the trees shading the asphalt road, shining rain drops falling from the lush green trees and nobody on the way.... we were chatting loud and racing with each other.. then there was a small road on the right leading to some place called the look over. It was a superb view of the vast paines prairies reserve, there is a bench there to sit and enjoy the view. overall the place was peaceful and refreshing to the mind. From there we got back to the main trail and continued further.

The trail road was curvy with downhills and uphills, the downhills were soo much fun. We saw deers among the nice woods. We then took a route to a place called la-chua over look, it was another fabulous view there, down there we saw wild horses and the best was a single white horse among them. We chatted there for a few minutes and decided to leave. There were some interesting fruits that we tried out from the trees, they were sour though :| .

While riding back feeling all happy for a refreshing break.. to top it all bharani calls out "check out the rainbow" ..... hahahaha ... I was laughing to myself thinking that was a treat from god to me for asking a break from the stressed out thesis work .... all at once. The next day I learned from a friend of mine that discovery channel was shooting in the trail recently :) . Didnt know we had a place like this nearby home.

The best bike ride ever!
